Mizuma Gallery is proud to present Liminal Relic, solo exhibition by Kemalezedine, curated by Asmudjo J. Irianto, opening on 17 January 2026. The exhibition explores the evolving space between tradition and modernity in contemporary Balinese art. Drawing from Balinese cultural objects such as Kamasan paintings, ceremonial ornaments, and symbolic motifs, the artist reflects on how these traditions continue to exist— no longer in their original form, yet not fully lost. Kemalezedine repositions these relics not simply as remnants of the past, but as living forms open to reinterpretation. His works are fragmented and layered, echoing the way traditions are constantly negotiated and reshaped in the present. Liminal Relics questions how cultural symbols function today, especially when Balinese people live between communal ritual practices and individual modern lives. Through this exhibition, Kemalezedine reimagines Balinese painting as a critical, contemporary visual language.
Liminal Relic, a solo exhibition by Kemalezedine, will run from 17 January to 1 March 2026 at Mizuma Gallery, 22 Lock Road #01-34 Gillman Barracks, Singapore 108939. The gallery will open from 11am to 7pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays, and 11am to 6pm on Sundays. The gallery will be closed on Mondays and Public Holidays. An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, 17 January 2026 from 4pm to 7pm. In conjunction with Singapore Art Week, a Breakfast with the Artist will be held on Saturday, 24 January 2026 from 9am to 12pm, followed by an Artist Talk facilitated by Mr. Teo Han Wue from 3pm to 4pm and Exhibition Reception from 4pm to 7pm. About the Artist
Kemalezedine (b. 1978, Yogyakarta, Indonesia) studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia from 1997 to 2004. He is part of the Nu-Abstract and Neo-Pitamaha groups in Bali, who study traditional Balinese art, while incorporating new experimentations and ideas. Kemalezedine’s focus is to create and explore the world of painting-drawing. His paintings intertwine the genealogies of both traditional art lines and modern painting through colour planes, composition, and balance. Existing between different painting styles, his paintings explore the tension between the traditional and the modern, natural and unnatural, macrocosm and microcosm, emptiness and fullness. Kemalezedine lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.

About Singapore Art Week
Singapore Art Week (SAW) is an annual visual arts platform that profiles homegrown artists and art projects. Held in January each year, SAW takes place in and around the island across various venues where we live and work: arts and cultural institutions, private galleries, art precincts, independent art spaces, public spaces, and homes. SAW is a platform that brings fresh and innovative programmes to both local and international audiences. SAW, a celebration of Singapore’s lively art landscape, is helmed by the National Arts Council (NAC).
The 14th Edition of SAW will be held from 22 to 31 January 2026.
