“Indonesia Art World: Dr. Melani Setiawan’s Archive 1977–2022” is a 3-volume book chronicling 45 years of Indonesian art history through the lens of Dr. Melani Setiawan. What began as a personal habit of documenting moments grew into an archive of over 100,000 photographs capturing artists, curators, gallerists, art enthusiasts and key art events at home and abroad. Accompanied by essays by Jim Supangkat, Agus Dermawan T., Christine Cocca, and Hendro Wiyanto, the book examines the unique role of the “Mother of Indonesian Artists” and traces developments in photographic practice itself.
Iwan Effendi (b. 1979, Yogyakarta) is a multidisciplinary artist recognized for his drawings, paintings, sculptures, and large-scale movable puppets. Co-founder of Papermoon Puppet Theatre since 2006, he has helped reinvent Indonesian puppetry through emotionally resonant performances that have toured internationally.
