Mizuma Conversations | Albert Yonathan Setyawan

Mizuma Gallery presents Mizuma Conversations, a series of interviews with featured artists. Artist in feature here is Albert Yonathan Setyawan.

Known for his geometric arrangements of ceramic pieces, Albert Yonathan Setyawan is always fascinated by the idea of repeating certain actions over and over and over again until eventually it transcends the meaning of that action itself.⁣⁣

Born in 1983 in Bandung, Indonesia, Albert Yonathan Setyawan graduated from ITB Bandung in 2012 with MFA before moving to Kyoto, Japan, for his research and eventually to pursue a PhD at Kyoto Seika University. In 2013, Albert was among five Indonesian artists chosen to represent the country in the 55th Venice Biennale. ⁣⁣

Tune into our IGTV and hear from ceramic artist, Albert Yonathan share more on his thoughts and ideas behind creating his distinctly recognizable ceramic pieces, often arranged into geometric or mandala-like formations.
